Internet marketing has been around for years and will no doubt be around for many more years to come. It is a very fluid business, things are changing constantly. One thing remains true throughout all these changes though, the person that controls the traffic wins. It is as simple as that. Traffic is the key. You could create the greatest program ever that is going to solve everyones problems, but if you don’t get any traffic to your sales page then it is doomed to failure. Similarly the worst program in the world will probably still make a few sales if there is enough traffic aimed towards the sales page.
So to really succeed online, you need to be able to point traffic at any page at any time. Once you have this ability, then many doors will open for you. You can start creating products of your own, you can start promoting affiliate offers, you will get JV offers from other people launching products and they will offer you generous commissions on sales, because they know you can supply the traffic and the more traffic they can get to their sales page, the more money they can make. You know what, they will be happy to pay you 75% commissions and only keep 25% for themselves. Why? Well without your traffic, they would not have made those sales and 25% is better than nothing right. If they have enough JVs sending traffic that 25% soon adds up to large amounts. Controlling traffic is the key to your internet marketing success. Once you realise this, then things suddenly become a lot clearer.
Types Of Internet Traffic
1. Traffic You Own
Traffic you own is the best type of traffic. This is traffic you can tap into at any time and get an almost immediate benefit. The ultimate goal for all traffic you get is to try and turn it into traffic you own. This is usually done by building a list with an autoresponder service. You offer opt in forms to your visitors so they can subscribe to your list. If you have offered enough value, either in great information or you are offering a free incentive for them to sign up, then converting traffic into list subscribers is not so difficult. Once you have built a list, you can send an email and direct that traffic to any site you wish, either one of yours or an affiliate offer etc. If you are consistently offering high value information to your list, you will build a relationship, they will come to trust you and follow where you lead.
2. Targeted Traffic
Targeted traffic is traffic that arrives at your website through some sort of choice they made. Maybe they searched a relevant keyword on a search engine to bring them to your site, or maybe you did a JV with another list owner who emailed his list on your behalf and they chose to click the link and check you out. You could have a video on You Tube that promotes your site with a link, or an article in one of the article directories, maybe a tweet or a post on facebook, either way they chose to come to your site because they were interested. Targeted traffic already has an interest in your subject and is the easiest to convert into traffic you own and is where you should concentrate most of your traffic generation time.
3. Untargeted Traffic
Untargeted traffic is traffic that ended up on your site either by accident or because they were forced to. A few examples of untargeted traffic are traffic from traffic exchanges or credit based safelists, basically they arrived to simply earn traffic back to their own site. This is very hard traffic to try and convert into traffic you own and is not really worth wasting a lot of time on. Spend your time driving targeted traffic.
